Cost and call-out
How much does a plumber cost in Traralgon?
A standard call-out in the Latrobe Valley is typically $120–$210, often including travel and the first 30–60 minutes, with hourly rates after the included window roughly $90–$150 regional. GST is extra, and a written quote confirms the real price for your job. See the rates page for the full dated guide.
What is the difference between call-out and hourly?
The call-out fee gets us to your door and usually covers travel plus the first 30–60 minutes on site. After that included window, time is charged at an hourly rate. A short job (a leaking tap, a running toilet) often finishes inside the call-out; a longer job (a blocked drain that needs CCTV, a burst that needs a line repair) runs into hourly. We tell you where the call-out ends and the hourly starts before we start.
Is there an after-hours or emergency surcharge?
Yes. After-hours and emergency work commonly carries a 50–100% surcharge above the standard rate, highest on Sundays and Victorian public holidays. We will tell you on the phone whether your job genuinely needs an after-hours call or can safely wait until morning — we will not run up an after-hours bill on a job that could wait.
Drains and the water authority
Is a blocked drain my responsibility or Gippsland Water's?
The private sewer lateral — the drain from the house to the boundary or the connection point — is yours. The authority main beyond that point is Gippsland Water's. We identify where the blockage sits before we quote: if it is on the authority's side, we tell you to log the job with Gippsland Water rather than paying us to fix it.
What is an overflow relief gully and why does it matter?
The overflow relief gully (ORG) is the grated fitting outside that lets a surcharged sewer overflow outside the home instead of through the floor waste inside. If yours is buried, paved over, or sitting below the floor-waste level, a sewer surcharge will come up inside. We clear, raise and reinstate ORGs as part of a proper sewer job.
Gas
I can smell gas — what do I do?
Do not switch anything electrical, do not use a phone inside, ventilate if safe, and call 000. Then call AusNet for the gas network. Once the network side is clear, call us for the appliance or private gas line. Gas work is licensed — we issue the Energy Safe Victoria compliance paperwork.
Isolating the meter
How do I turn the water off in a burst?
Find the water meter at the front boundary, turn the handle clockwise to shut the supply, and open a cold tap inside to drain the pressure off the break. Then call us. Knowing where your meter is before a burst is worth ten minutes of your time.
Rentals
I am a tenant — what is an urgent repair?
Under the Victorian Residential Tenancies Act, a burst pipe, a blockage, a total hot water failure or a gas fault is an urgent repair the landlord cannot reasonably refuse. We attend, isolate, and give you and the agent a clear written scope so the urgent-repair process is straightforward.
Hot water rebates
Are there Victorian rebates for heat-pump hot water?
Yes — Victoria runs a hot water rebate pathway for eligible heat-pump and solar hot water systems. The rebate amounts and eligibility change, so we do not quote dollar figures here; we point you to the current official energy.vic.gov.au source and factor the eligibility into the quote. See our hot water rebates page for the explainer.
